Sunday 13 October 2013--Mostly sunny this morning, and I'm planning to take a walk along a previously unseen stretch of Hadrian's Wall. Drive
west to Haydon Bridge, then wander along some narrow lanes on the north side of the valley. Almost have a head-on with some clown speeding around a
I pull into the car park at Cawfields Quarry, planning to walk west. Suddenly realize that I've neglected to bring sufficient change for the pay-and-display lot. (The fee, six pounds, may seem a bit steep, but it covers all lots along the wall, all day.) The wind goes out of my sails. To be honest, there wasn't much to begin with--my mood has been teetering on the edge for a couple of days. End up taking a drive out past Vindolanda Roman Fort and Lanercost Priory, either of which would be worth a visit; but I don't want to get out of the car. Kate Rusby feeds my melancholy on the car stereo. The sky turns gray and misty, making me feel less bad about wasting the day. Return to Corbridge and take a nap.
Dinner at the Black Bull, Pints at the Angel. I like Corbridge, but think I'll stay in Hexham next time through.
